6 easy ways to refresh your home for spring

“Gone was any trace of you, I think I’m finally clean.” By “you”, did Tay mean “winter”? We’re not sure, but gone is any trace of old man winter and we are finally HAPPY about that.

Spring is springing across the country, which is a lovely time to focus on refreshing in all areas of life. Be it crusty things, behaviors or boyfriends, ‘tis the season to take the “trash to the curb” and make way for new life to flourish.

Call it pathetic fallacy, but I am a firm believer in ambiance’s impact on your mood and motivation. And you don’t need a contractor to make a meaningful difference in your space. Here are six easy ways you can revitalize your home to accompany your spring renewal vibes.

  1. Decorate with fresh flowers. Never underestimate the power of a fresh bouquet. My favorite way to floral is by snagging beautiful blossoms from local farmers markets, but even a $3 bunch of Baby’s Breath from Trader Joe’s will do the trick!

2. Get rid of things you don’t use. Don’t sleep on the trite “spring cleaning” to reduce and renew! It’s amazing how good it feels to donate old clothes, books and your pile of impulse Instagram ad purchases. Just find your local thrift store and let your trash become someone else’s treasure.

3. Freshen your space with spring scents. Light florals and clean linens will make your home smell like the breezy curtain scene from The Great Gatsby. For that crisp, clean vibe, check out Breeze Dried Sheets or Exhale. To capture the essence of the coastal grandma aesthetic, Beaches of Barcelona is your girl. For flirty florals, you’ll love Dancing Dress’ bright and sweet orange blossom fragrance.

“A breeze blew through the room, blew curtains in at one end and out the other like pale flags, twisting them up towards the frosted wedding-cake of the ceiling, and then rippled over the wine-coloured rug, making a shadow on it as wind does on the sea.”

― F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby

4. Brighten up with throw pillows. Throw pillows are a quick and affordable way to revamp both your indoor and outdoor spaces. The trick is to buy pillow inserts on Amazon (I love these ones because they’re soft, keep their structure and come in a variety of sizes) and pillow covers. That way you can change out your covers seasonally to update your look without breaking the bank. For outdoor pillows, these covers are bright and fun and weatherproof, and come in a variety of colors.

5. Update your bedding. Cozy flannels are out! Fresh cooling linens and bamboo sheets are in. If you’re one to change your bedding look from season to season, now’s the time to change out your dark, fuzzy cozies for light and airy threads. It’s amazing how this small change can transform the look of your bedroom.

6. Open the windows. I read once that it’s common in Italy to open all the windows each morning to let yesterday’s stale air out and today’s fresh air in. Isn’t that so nice? Embrace this time between heat and AC and open those windows to let the stale air out to make room for fresh air, thoughts, goals, hopes and dreams. 🖤
